It’s official… Summer. Has. Ended.

As I sit here, gazing out the window at the grey skies and relentless rain, it’s clear that Autumn has taken hold with its characteristic chill. And in the back of my mind, I can’t help but think of the looming arrival of Old Man Winter, waiting in the wings to make his grand entrance.

It’s a funny thing, really. Here I am, in Canada, a country known for its bone-chilling winters and legendary snowstorms, and yet I’ve never been much of a cold-weather enthusiast. But hey, life is full of surprises, right?

I arrived in Canada last winter, just as February was beginning to assert its icy grip. And you know what? It wasn’t so bad. Sure, there were days when the snow seemed endless and the cold seeped into your bones, but overall, I survived. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that my first Canadian winter was rather tame compared to the horror stories I’d heard.

But now, as Autumn settles in and the city braces itself for the inevitable onslaught of winter, I can’t help but feel a twinge of apprehension. I’ve been told, time and time again, that my luck is bound to run out—that the real Canadian winter is waiting just around the corner, ready to pounce when I least expect it.

But enough about winter. Let’s talk about summer—the season of sunshine, patios, and endless possibilities. Despite my reservations about the cold, I have to admit that Toronto in the summertime is truly something special. From bustling street festivals to lazy afternoons spent on sun-drenched patios, there’s never a dull moment in this city when the sun is shining.

One of my favourite summer pastimes? Patio-hopping. There’s something about sipping cocktails in the open air, surrounded by friends and good conversation, that just can’t be beaten. Whether it’s a rooftop bar overlooking the city skyline or a cozy courtyard tucked away in a quiet corner of the neighbourhood, Toronto’s patios offer endless opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment.

But as the days grow shorter and the temperatures begin to drop, it’s time to bid farewell to summer and embrace the changing seasons. Autumn brings with it its own delights—crisp mornings, fiery foliage, and the promise of cozy nights spent indoors with loved ones.

And while I may miss the lazy days of summer, I’m excited to see what the coming months have in store. From leaf-peeping excursions to cozy nights by the fire, there’s plenty to look forward to as we transition from one season to the next.

So here’s to summer memories and winter adventures—to embracing the beauty of each season and finding joy in the little moments that make life worth living. And who knows? Maybe this winter won’t be so bad after all.

I’ll be thinking of you this winter, can’t wait to see some photos of the snow and find out if it really is ‘that bad’! Sending warmer thoughts from the West Coast 🙂

Thank you Liz, I’m hoping that we get some snow – maybe for a few days, I’ve got to admit, I cannot wait for the summer to return! Hope you had a great trip back to the UK 🙂
