Chocoholic Pinotage – A Darling Cellars Wine

As soon as I saw the name of this wine, I knew I had to try it. Being a huge fan of both chocolate and red wine, the opportunity to combine the two was too good to resist. The Chocoholic Pinotage by Darling Cellars did not disappoint.

Tasting Notes

When it comes to wine, appearance is the first thing that catches my eye. The Chocoholic Pinotage has a dense, bright, and deep red colour that immediately sets the stage for what’s to come.

On the nose, the wine offers a rich aroma of cocoa, coffee, and a hint of liquorice. It’s like a decadent chocolate dessert in a glass, enticing you to take that first sip.

And oh, what a sip it is! On the palate, the Chocoholic Pinotage delivers a delightful combination of flavours. I immediately taste notes of Turkish delight, chocolate, and a medley of red and black cherries. It’s a symphony of flavours that dance on your taste buds.

As the wine lingers, there are hints of vanilla, red plum, and butterscotch that add depth and complexity to the overall experience. It’s a wine that keeps you coming back for more, hence the aptly named “moreish” style.

Varietal Composition and Style

The Chocoholic Pinotage is made from the Pinotage grape variety, which is a uniquely South African varietal. It’s a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsaut, resulting in a wine that showcases the best of both worlds.

Darling Cellars, the producer of this delightful wine, has truly captured the essence of the varietal with their Chocoholic Pinotage. The wine embodies the boldness and richness of Pinotage, while also showcasing the smoothness and elegance that comes from careful winemaking.

The “moreish” style of this wine means that it is incredibly easy to drink. The combination of chocolate and red wine might sound intense, but the Chocoholic Pinotage strikes a perfect balance. It’s not overly sweet or heavy, making it a versatile wine that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with a variety of foods.
